There will be no disguising the goodwill and affection on show at a masquerade ball in Feilding.

The gala event will be held in lieu of the annual Dancing with the Feilding Stars as a tribute to dance identity Trish Whitson, who died last November.

Trish and her husband, Mike Whitson, had been involved in training and choreographing for the dance contest fundraiser for the past three years.

Mike Whitson was thrilled to hear the ball would honour his wife.
“[I’m] kind of blown away really. It’s amazing. Absolutely amazing.”

Whitson has continued to run Tempo Dance Studio and his pupils will perform at the ball in honour of Trish, alongside long-time dance duo Ross Adlam and Anne-Maria Robb.

The team at Feilding and District Promotion have helped organise the ball, which will raise money for Manchester House.

“We’re lucky that our job is to help smaller organisations,” said its project manager Raewyn Loader.

There are 396 tickets available for the ball and they’re expected to sell out fast based on the popularly of last year’s Dancing with the Feilding Stars.

Amanda Street, who manages the Manchester House op shop, said ballgoers can expect an amazing night out.

Artist Joe McMenamin has created a poster for the event, Rob Edwards will be the event photographer and Jeanette Poulson will be painting faces.

Local band Mama’s Boys will be reuniting to provide the beat for the ball.

“There’s lots of opportunity for the community to get behind Manchester House and have a good night,” Loader said.

The masquerade ball will be held on June 15 at 7pm. Tickets are available at the Feilding Information Centre for $75 each.

EFTPOS facilities will be available at the bar, and supper and dessert are included with tickets.

Manchester House is a non-profit organisation and provides the community with support services for the elderly, youth, and families, providing a food bank, and advice on legal and budgeting matters.
